DO YOU THINK 72nd STREET CAN BE IMPROVED!?

We’ve created a month-long, publicly crowdsourced Road Safety Audit for 72nd Street between Dodge Street and Pacific Street because we want to know what YOU think! It’s easy to participate.

All you have to do is DRIVE, BIKE, WALK, or ROLL down 72nd Street, then fill out the form(s) and submit it to us by July 31st.

We have forms for:

Drivers and motorcyclists

Bicyclists

Pedestrians and vulnerable users

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. The links for all three forms are at the bottom of this page.

2. Please fill out the form you want to complete and choose the “download/save with changes” option

3. To complete the form on your mobile phone, choose the “save to files” option first, fill it out, then choose the “save with changes” option.

4. After you’ve completed your form, attach it in an email and send to safeomahastreets@gmail.com Feel free to attach photos or videos too!

If you’d never normally ride your bike on 72nd, please answer the following questions and email to us at: safeomahastreets@gmail.com

1) Have you ever ridden your bike along 72nd between Dodge & Pacific (either on road or sidewalk)?

2) If so, what was your experience like?

3) Do you use the Keystone trail instead of 72nd Street?

4) In general, what would make you feel safer as a cyclist on roads with 2 or more lanes here in Omaha?

5) What changes could be made to intersections to make you feel safer as a cyclist in Omaha?

6) Would traffic enforcement (Omaha Police Department) make you feel safer or less safe as a cyclist in Omaha?

TIPS FOR COMPLETING THE AUDIT:

FOR MOTORISTS:

Mount your phone on your dash and record your drive, then use the video to fill out the questionnaire

Audio record yourself taking spoken notes as you drive, then use that info to fill out the questionnaire

Invite a friend along and have them take notes or fill out the questionnaire as you drive.

FOR CYCLISTS - Please answer questions above if you’d never normally ride here

If you have access to a helmet cam, strap that bad boy on and then use the footage to fill out the questionnaire

Invite other cyclist friends along and each person can be responsible for observing certain items, then fill out the questionnaire when safely off your bike

FOR PEDESTRIANS & VULNERABLE USERS:

You can fill out the questionnaire as you go on a notebook or mobile phone. Go old school and print out the forms and stick them to a clipboard.

Invite friends along to make it fun.

If you ever feel unsafe or if the infrastructure is unsafe, please stop your audit immediately and contact us, 911 and/or the Mayor’s Hotline.
